Noir remains the new black at Saint Laurent.

“Fashions fade, style is eternal.” is perhaps one of the most famous quotes from Yves Saint Laurent and it still rings true even decades after his passing. On September 25th, 2018, Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello debuted another sophisticated collection for the renowned fashion house, Saint Laurent, still no Yves. The SPRING/SUMMER 19 collection was pure divinity. The fluorescent palm trees, sea of water, infectious rhythm by Sebastian, and the juxtaposition of the Eiffel Tower sparkling in the background was magical. Rossana Latallada opened the show wearing a classic black tuxedo silhouette, an unbuttoned silk white blouse, a fresh take on the classic choker knot tie, a silver headband, and paired with gorgeous yellow snake print calf boots was STUNNING. What followed after was even more breathtaking. Models sashayed down the runway wearing sequins, feathers, hats galore, bedazzled headpieces, metallic, cheetah, leather bodysuits, blends of prints, oh you name it and Vaccarello did it. The infusion of colors so tactfully hand-picked was pure artistry.

Buyers, influencers and press among others, sat side by side as the collection unfolded and boy did he deliver. It was divine, spiritual, chic, and most of all still paying homage to the quintessence of noir. Noir remains the new black. The most popular silhouettes were sheer blouses with exaggerated detailing sans bras, sequins jumpsuits (never thought I’d need one), a classic sequins Breton stripe, which was all too reminiscent of “Where’s Waldo?” but a true staple nonetheless. The pairing of leather shorts, sequins t-shirt, and an oversize blazer are essential for next spring. As well as, white boots are still going strong, which can be paired with oversized black pants, a white peasant blouse, metallic eye shadow, and a cheetah scarf for a bit of color and boom, you’re all set. The true style of classic black pieces is eternal.

Let’s take a look at a few of my favorite looks from the show where models walked on water.
